Posture is a window into your spine, but the importance goes far beyond aesthetics. Poor posture and forward head positioning may affect:

  • Brain - increased stress responses within your nervous system and decreased functioning related to balance and co-ordination

  • Lung capacity - up to 30% decreased lung capacity

  • Blood pressure - increased blood pressure

  • Energy, confidence and mental health - decreases fatigue and increases mental state

  • Mortality - Increases mortality rate

  • Physical function - increase in difficulty in bending, walking and climbing, measured grip strength, and rising from a chair

  • Fractures - hyperkyphosis may be a risk factor for future fractures, independent of bone mass density or past fractures

But the important thing about posture is not how well you can hold your body up, it's about how well does your body hold itself up. Through the adjustments and corrections that I do, the body will automatically hold itself with better positioning.

In all the photos below the instructions are always the same; "breathe in, breathe out and let your body slump".
